  • Miss Strangeworth woke up with a sense of happiness and achievement which would not last long. She went into the garden and saw all her roses dead and trampled over with a letter on the roses using the same type of writing Miss Strangeworth used. In this scene, the roses symbolize Miss Strangeworth's reputation in the town, when the roses were healthy and alive, she was viewed as innocent and kind, once her evil secret had been discovered, her flowers also died with her positive reputation.
  • What a wicked and evil world!
  • LOOK OUT ATWHAT USED TO BE YOUR ROSES.
  • Miss Strangeworth returned home and sat down, she started to write several letters berating, judging and privacy-invading letters which were targeted at several townspeople. She would later mail them anonymously to the recipients of each letter, she believes that it is her duty to rid the town of evil, lustfulness and degradedness. There is irony within this scene, Miss Strangeworth feels that she is protecting the town from evil but she is the true evil which lies in the town.

  • Miss Strangeworth goes into the town at night to put her letters in the mailbox, as she was placing the 3 letters, one of them slipped out and fell on the ground. the Harris boy and Linda see the letter and tried to call for Miss Strangeworth but she didn't hear them, so they decided to give the letter to Don Crane themselves.
