  • Two minutes of hate meeting.
  • Winston recalls noticing girl.
  • Winston recalls noticing girl two .
  • Winston in time for the two minutes of hate, he sat down, waiting for the rest of his co workers to enter to partake in this joyous occasion. Moments later two people whom he knew by sight, but had never spoken to, came unexpectedly into the room. One of them was a girl whom he often passed in the corridors. He did not know her name, but he knew that she worked in the Fiction Department.
  • Back to reality.
  • Winston Notices her every time she walks to her department, he is filled with mixed emotions regarding her.
  • Rage builds.
  • He would often see her whenever either one of them walks through the party corridors.
  • Possible explanation for rage.
  • To him she looked like the ideal beautiful woman. She was a bold-looking girl, of about twenty-seven, with thick hair, a freckled face, and swift, athletic movements. A narrow scarlet sash, emblem of the Junior Anti-Sex League, was wound several times round the waist.
  • As much as he admired her beauty he was also enraged by the sight of her as she carried that sash on her waist like a trophy. He's disliked her form the moment he first saw her. He disliked nearly all women, and especially the young and pretty ones. It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party.
  • Winston disliked this woman most because once while walking through a corridor, the woman gave him a quick sidelong glance at him. Piercing Winston filling him with black terror. After that incident that particular girl gave him the impression that she was more dangerous than most.
