  • This river was once a small, little creek. Over time, the flow of the water broke down the sediments and transporting them away from the creek, causing erosion. This river has been here for tens of thousands of years, and will continue getting larger and deeper as long as the water flows.
  • Although water does cause erosion, it is not the only form of erosion. For example, this big rock formation behind me was created because of wind erosion. Wind erosion is when the wind breaks down sediments and transporting them away from the rock, similar to water erosion. This rock sculpture took thousands of years to form.
  • Lastly, this cliff was formed from coastal erosion. Coastal erosion is caused by two types of waves: constructive waves and destructive waves. Constructive waves are waves that have low energy, and bring sediments to the shoreline causing buildup. Destructive waves are where the erosion comes in. They are faster waves with lots more power. They smash into the side of the shore and take sediments off the shoreline and out to sea. This process will continue until the cliff collapses, then the process will start all over again.
