- One day as Mohammed was praying on a mountain, the arc angel Gabriel came down and told Mohammed to "Recite" and that he is the messenger of God

- As Mohammed left the cave, he feared me might be going mad. But, according to Muslim tradition, Khadijah talked to Mohammed and told him that God chose him to communicate God's words to the people.

- Khadijah was the first person to convert to Islam. And Islam is based in monotheism, or the belief of one God. And the God she believed in was the one Muhammad taught who was the same God of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. And through Gabriel, God told Muhammad to teach others about treating people with honesty, compassion, and justice.
- Over the next 22 years, Muhammad continued to receive messages from God through Gabriel. And in the beginning, he would only tell theses messages to his friends and family, but also his cousin Ali and and a "close companion", Abu Bakr.
- Over time, followers developed in Makkah called Muslims. Muslims means "those who surrender to God" and to them, Islam was a way of life and the basis for creating a just society.
