Watson and Holmes are introduced. Sherlock shows off his deductive skills to the owner of the watch. (Sherlock also explains how he hates not having work as he is dependant on it.
chapter 4 (the story of the bald headed man)
Miss Morstan explains to Sherlock and Watson about how her father has mysteriously has disappeared. How she mysteriously started to get a pearl once every year for the past 6 years on the same date. Sherlock in the end agrees to go to the mysterious meeting place at the theatre.
chapter 5 (the tragedy of Pondecherry lodge)
Miss Morstan shows Holmes a paper that she has found in her fathers belongings. They are then met by a coachmen who drives them to a house where there the door is open by an Asian servant.
chapter 6 (Sherlock Holmes gives a demonstration)
They meet Thaddeus Sholto where he then explains how his dad died years ago and why he arranged for the pearls to be delivered to Miss Morstan. They then go to see his twin brother Bartholomew
When they get to his house Sherlock finds Bartholomew dead in a locked room, with a thorn on him and the treasure missing.
Sherlock examines the room and deduces that there were two men involved in the murder. Althelney Jones arrives to deduct the case. Sherlock then asks for Watson to collect Toby the dog.
