  • • Determines if there was probably cause that the defendant committed the crime. If so, juvenile either• Receives an informal probation called “informal adjustment” or• Remains in detention with the Department of Juvenile Justice
  • Step Five - Disposition
  • • Documentation of the formal charges against the juvenile• Means there was “probably cause” and• The juvenile justice process is the best decision for the child
  • • Similar to a trial in the adult justice system• Judge reviews evidence, hears testimony, and determines guilt (as delinquent, unruly, or not guilty)• No juries in juvenile court
  • • Custody under the Department of Juvenile Justice• 30-day sentence• Youth Development Center• Released back into custody of parents/guardians• Possible outcomes:• Similar to sentencing in the adult justice system*After the final step, the juvenile may choose to appeal if found delinquent/ unruly.
