- Hey! Wanna hear something interesting?
- Today, were going to talk about Techno - Racism and how it affects everyone.
- Now that were all comfortable. We can begin.
- For example, algorithmic bias comes from the system when a certain demographic is thought about more than others. Take me for example; I'm a black woman and id often get different ads then someone who identifies as a white man.
- All because of the color of my skin and my gender. The system is set like this so it would be easier for a certain type of demographic to find what it is that they are looking for. It usually works best for jobs.
- Let's begin with week 2. In week 2, Our class spoke about general racism that is related to the technical side of the world.
- What saddens me is that it's not only your race or gender that hinders someone with the algorithm. other examples include; Location and religious beliefs. Although I believe that the algorithm was not created with ill intentions in the beginning. however, in this day and age, it makes it harder for minorities and others with lower incomes to find jobs, better housing, the best education, etc...
- I think I spoke enough about this topic. How about we move on...
- How about we let someone whos an expert in this topic take over... Lets hear it for the robots!!!

- You may be wondering, what can a robot teach me about systemic racism? well, I can teach you plenty. since I was created from the same system.
- However, as much as I would like to, I don't know the deep-rooted feelings that come with racism. Did you know that there were different types of racism? there's; institutional racism. microaggression, stereotyping. and so much more. Microaggressions Microaggressions
- But in all honesty, I am truly grateful on how far technology has come. take me for instance, if technology wasn't developed this profoundly, I wouldn't be able to communicate the way that I am. but just because I am programmed to be nice, doesnt mean that all technology is the same
- To quote Professor Peart, "We should not just assume technology is always good or neutral. It can sometimes support unfairness or bias, even if we don't mean it to."
