  • Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less. - Marie Curie
  • Marie Curie lived in Warsaw, Poland for her childhood. She was born on 7 November 1867, and fell in love with science at a young age. Poland didn't let women into higher schools, so she decided moved away to Paris, where she laterattended the Flying University and the University of Paris.
  • Marie faced lots of barriers because the place and time she lived meant women weren’t given as many opportunities as men, especially regarding schooling opportunities. She had to learn to fight for what she wanted, and was determined enough to be accepted into her dream schools.
  • She met Professor Pierre Curie at her time at the University of Paris, and they later married in 1895.She worked alongside Henri Becquereland Pierre Curie, who she went on to shared a Nobel prize with. Her fame led her to future opportunities, including working with Albert Einstein.
  • Her most famous discovery was her research on radioactivity. Along with her research, she also discovered two elements; Radium and Polonium. Marie Curie won 8 major awards for her scientific work, her most impressive ones were her two Nobel Prizes. One was for work in the field in Chemistry, the other in Physics. She was the one of the most influential female scientists, and is currently the only scientist to receive 2 Nobel Prizes in separate fields.
  • Marie tragically passed away in 1934 from Aplastic Anemia. It was believed that she got the disease from the amount of radiation she was exposed to in her lifetime. Her coffin was lined with lead to confine the radiation she may still be contaminated with.Marie Curie and here incredible scientific discoveries will never be forgotten, and her work helps modern day scientists so much.THE END
