- Sojourner was sold in total 3 times, the last time to man named Mr. Dumont. When there he said that if she was a hard worker he would release her free a year before the law would set her free. This motivated her to work very hard, only taking little naps and not sleeping properly for days. When Mr. Dumont did not keep his promise, she ran away (with only 1 of her 5 children) to a person who legally bought her from Mr. Dumont and then later set her free.

- Sojourner fell in love with another enslaved person named Bob. However, Bob lived on another piece of land, and when people found out, they were separated and punished. This affected her as he and her had a relationship that was torn apart by others. Later on in her life she married another person and had 5 kids.
