- Me too, but thanks to something called homeostasis, which helps regulate heat in our body
- What is homeostasis?
- The maintenance of a constant internal environment in the body.
- How does this help?
- There are many ways which the body heat up. There is something in our brain called the hypothalamus which his coordinates the changes needed to control body temperature. It contains receptors which measures the blood temperature. and uses the information to activate heating or cooling mechanisms
- Since I am cold can you tell me some of the heating mechanisms
- One of them is shivering, and what happens here is that your muscles contracts and relax in a uncontrollable and uncoordinated way. And respiration releases this energy for these movements and also releases energy by heating this help to increase our body temperature
- Do we have another way to heat our body?
- Yes and its called " vasoconstriction" this happens when the body temperature is too low, and these arteries narrow which reduces the blood flow in the capillaries. and this decreases heat loss.
