- Hades ruled the Underworld, but he was lonely. So he set out to Zeus to ask for a wife.
- I will not work, knowing my daughter is gone...
- Hades asked Zeus for Persephone to be his wife. Zeus could not ask Persephone's mother, for she would deny such a thing from happening. So they made a plan to kidnap Persephone.
- Did you eat?!
- Just four seeds of a pomegranate...
- Persephone was walking when she encountered a beautiful white narcissus. She picked the flower but then she was kidnapped by Hades. She screamed for her mother before she was made Queen of the Underworld.
- Demeter heard the cries of her daughter and set out to find her. When the others told her that Hades kidnapped Persephone, she was devastated. She built a temple and wouldn't work. Humans were dying. Zeus tried to persuade her to work again, but in vain. He finally sent Hermes down to beg Hades to let Persephone free. He agreed, sadden by this choice.
- When Persephone came back to her mother, she was delighted. Demeter saw some juice on her toga and asked if she ate anything down there. Persephone ate four seeds, and Demeter knew that she lost her daughter to Hades.
- So they made a deal. Persephone would stay with her mother for three months and everything would live. In the next three months, Persephone would be taken away, and everything would slowly die. For the next three months, everything would be covered in snow. The last three months, Persephone would return home and the snow melted revealing life. These are the seasons that happen every three months.
