  • First Meeting
  • Hello there! I am the school's track squad coach, Coach Marley. Welcome!
  • What in the world is he doing?
  • Competition
  • There an upcoming competition and I want you to be in it.
  • Huh, what. Are you serious!
  • Getting Caught
  • Mom, what were you doing here again?!
  • What are you on about?!
  • After the classes ended, it was four o'clock in the afternoon. I joined my high school's track club. I was sprinting to the back of the campus, where the first practice was being held. There were a few individuals in the place, and I was intrigued by them. Since all of the chairs were taken, I just stood because there were only around ten of us. Everyone in the room was towering and solemn. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to blend in. We all turned to check where the loud noise was coming from when we heard shouting. It was the coach, swiping his clipboard around as he walked over to us. He identified himself as the coach of the school's track squad. At the same time, our school's most athletic females were present at the meeting. I felt envious because I had always wished to be like them, to be someone as talented as they were.
  • The Argument
  • Why are you not prioritizing your studies? Stop playing that nonsense sport!
  • Two people approached me as I walked to school and began conversing with me. Faith and Andi, the athletic females, were there. As I questioned them, I was taken aback by their unexpected actions. It turned out that they wanted to be friends with me. After hours of toiling in this skirt that keeps flapping in the wind, classes have come to a close. I immediately changed into my sports gear and greeted Andi and Faith before beginning our daily 20-minute run. I was exhausted and thirsty after jogging nonstop as the instructor yelled at us to keep going. After an hour of training, he finally finished, and I dashed to the store to get some water. After I flopped onto the ground with my water, I couldn't even move. The coach, on the other hand, had something vital to say. There will be a track team competition in two months, with nine different high schools competing. I was hoping he'd pick me to be the team's representative. The fact that my name was announced as one of the participants astounded me the most. I was both surprised and delighted.
  • Realization
  • I am ready to go. Let's go to the venue now, please!
  • Are you ready? Let's go. You're going to be late for it.
  • I am so happy! Congratulations and good job, Tel!
  • I had no idea what to do because I had forgotten that my parents were really stringent about allowing me to do anything other than academic. For me, the strain of forcing them to admit me into the squad was enough. My coach expressed his strong desire for me to join the squad because of my speed and promise to build a name for myself. I felt so special when he said that, since I'd always thought of myself as an intellectual nerd who had to get A's in all of her subjects. As my body began to suffer, I trained for hours. It's been a month and a half since the competition was announced, and I still haven't informed my parents. I was afraid that they wouldn't let me do so many things, and that I wouldn't be able to rejoin my team again. I spoke with Faith and Andi, who advised me to contact them right away before anything else happened. I was too terrified, and I was nervous. While I was on the phone with them, my phone was charging, so my audio was on speaker. As my mother entered the room, I hurriedly hid and turned off the phone. She vacuumed my room for a few minutes before leaving. I unmuted them and told them about my apprehension about informing my parents. I had no idea that someone was listening in on our talk from behind my closed door.
  • Winner
  • I cannot believe this... I won!
  • Kristel was victorious! My friend won the competition!
  • My mother barged into my room and grabbed my ear, dragging me to the kitchen where my father was working. My mother was enraged and shouted at me. I was irritated because she felt I wasn't doing well in my academics and that I was putting my sports first. She was incorrect since I manage both my academic and extracurricular activities, but I can't argue with my parents because the conflict will escalate. She advised me to get out of the squad and focus on my studies, claiming that my grades were poor. If only I could have informed her that instead of studying every day, I just wanted to do something else. I was sobbing uncontrollably because they had never supported me in whatever I had done in my life. I dashed to my room, closed the door, and sobbed on my pillow. I had anticipated this, but I had not anticipated it to be that bad. I emailed my coach and informed him of my predicament. He apologized and expressed regret, claiming that I was a gifted player. I felt very grateful to be surrounded by good folks.
  • I prioritize my work, mom. I do well in my studies!
  • It was report card day, and I was worried because I wanted my parents to know how well I did in school. As I stood in front of the window in my room, I observed my mother driving away in her car. I was playing video games with Faith and Andi as they consoled me and assured me that everything would be well. After hours of play, I heard my mother shout my name from the stairwell. I paused my game and informed them that I would approach my mother about it and defend my right to my own freedom. I went downstairs and found my mother holding my report card. When I approached her, she did not appear cheerful. I was miserable, but I had no choice but to do everything I could since the track competition was about to begin, and Faith would be stepping in for me. When I told my mother about it, she grinned. I was perplexed as to why she would smile as if she had seen a star when she had refused to let me go in the first place. She told me that she was proud of me for sticking up for myself and that she regretted what she had done after seeing my good grades. I was overjoyed, and she advised me to get ready since she would be driving me to the tournament. I changed quickly and walked downstairs to the kitchen.
  • We arrived at the arena not long after and saw how the race was set to begin. My coach was taken aback when he saw me. When he spotted me, he swiftly urged me to return to my position on the field. Faith noticed me and smiled brightly as she rose from her position to switch places with me. The race began, and I could hear all of my friends and my mother cheering. In my whole life, I have never felt so delighted. My friends leapt on me and hugged me when I won the tournament. I won! I won the school's competition! My mother invited my team to a restaurant for lunch after the event. It was one of the most memorable days of my life because I was relieved to have addressed my mother during my saddest moment. Doing what I wanted was the greatest achievement of my life in a world full of problems.
