- Especially Senator Andrew Butler! He claims to have a high moral code yet still harbors slavery as his closest confidant. He is a halfwitted and unfit indivudal that should take no part in this senate!

- How could you Southerners endorse these types of actions! We should not attack each other over a simple speech. What an awful event to occur because you still want to abide by your system of slavery!

- How do we endorse these actions? It was you Northerners that praised this speech that attacked the South’s entire being! How can a speech so hateful be accepted in your region when it hurts us, one of your own in the Union!
- What an idiotic thing to do! We need to stop the spread of slavery soon to keep the Union together and stop this violence.
- They are going to take away all of our power in the South! If they do not let us live the way we always have we may have to leave the Union.
