Hello! I am Gregor Mendel, father of genetics.
Today, I will be telling you about my peas.
There are many different ways plants reproduce. Pea plants can reproduce through self-pollination and cross-pollination.
When a true breeding pea plant self-pollinates, its offspring will have the same traits as the parent.
Fertilization occurs when a sperm from the pollen travels through the stigma and enters the egg in an ovule.
In cross-pollination, pollen from the anthers (male) is transferred to the stigma (female).
In one of my studies, I removed the anthers in one of the plants that had produced wrinkle seeds and put them in a plant that produced round seeds.
This helped me to select which plants would be crossed to produce offspring.
