- This is the first glimpse we get of Mateo in the book, because of this first scene we learn a lot about his character and how he is as a person. It shows us in to his life with out giving to much away and gives the readers a good understanding of his character.
- "Is this Timothy?""Oh, apologies. Timothy is the gentleman I just got off the phone with; he didn't take the news very well, poor thing. You're Mateo Torrez, right?"
- "My name is Mateo" And just like that, my last hope is obliterated.
- Some background information on the story is that at some point in the past this thing called Death Cast appeared. Nobody knows where it came from but if you're going to die that day you get a call from Death Cast telling you to live your life to the fullest and things you can do that day.
- This scene gives us insight on Rufus's character and his back story. It shows us that even though he did something bad, he isn't a bad person. The readers can see this by how he interacts with his friends. You can see how scared he is from the first sentence of not wanting to pick up the phone. Although he doesn't want anyone to see this so he tries to put up a brave front.
- Rufus was beating up his ex-girlfriends new boyfriend, Peck, because he was badmouthing the 'Pluto's' or his little family. Death Cast started calling in the middle of the beating.
- 1:05 AM ...
- Death Cast is hitting me up as I'm beating up my ex-girlfriends new boyfriend to death."The hell I do,"My phone stops ringing.My phone starts ringing again
