- China was born along two great rivers, The yellow river and the Yangtze river. People began farming crops here. They a problem tho, the Yellow river had a habit of flooding and destrying everything
- A man that goes by Yu was tasked to stop the floods. He was so dedicated to his task that on several occasions he never went inside to visit his wife or his new born baby. Yu’s wife was furious with this, but could not do anything about it.
- 13 years later Yu has successfully finished his tasks and built canals that led the excess flood water into the fields or out to sea. Yu’s work was then acknowledged and he was named king, this then started China’s first ever dynasty. Though gender roles were then applied during this era.
- Women were restricted to many things other than doing household chores, taking care of their children, sewing and cooking.
- Even after the Xia dynasties fell, the gender roles weren’t changed and lasted for many more dynasties.
- In the modern days, gender roles aren’t as harsh as before, but it’s still a generational problem.
