- The short story entitled How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife was written by Mr. MANUEL E. ARGUILLA an Ilocano who won first prize in the Commonwealth Literary Contest in 1940.
- Maria stepped down on Ca Celin's carretela.Leon introduced Maria as his wife to his younger brother, Baldo. Baldo described Maria as lovely, tall, and beautiful.
- Baldo took the road of Waig instead of passing Camino Real. It was the wish of the father to go by Waig.
- When Baldo, Maria, and Leon arrived at their destination which is their home, Leon introduced Maria to his family but they were unable to meet his father because of his foot disability.
- Baldo talks to his father describing how Maria acts and adapts to what environment she is heading to. She surpassed the trials given by their father proving herself that she is worthy of Leon as wife.
- While Baldo and his father were talking, they suddenly sensed that Leon and Maria would enter their room and because of that Baldo and his father suddenly changed their topic about Labang and asked him to watered Labang. Then while Baldo is leaving he told that he can still smell the fragrance of Maria like a morning when papayas are in bloom.
