I've always had a dream. A dream of playing the piano.
Piano Center of Chicago
Every time I sit down at a piano, I get transported to another world. Words can't really describe it. It's like-
It was certainly a tough case today, but Mr. Andrews is free! We really-
Ben! Pay attention to your father when he's talking!
Oh! Sorry, Mom.
Sometimes I get carried away. My parents catch me at dinner tapping the table as if I were playing a piano. Both my parents are lawyers and run a firm together, so they don't understand much about music. They want me to study law. I don't know how to tell them the truth, and about my dream.
Son, what's going on? This has been happening these past couple nights.
Tell us the truth! Please.
Tell us right now!
My anger was building. It became too much, and finally spilled out.
You want the truth! I want to be a musician! You will never understand!
I walked up the stairs, furious.
I got to my room and tried to sleep off the anger. Tomorrow would be a better day, I told myself.
The next day, I got to school and went to the music room. My friends Jacob and Lucy were there. I began playing a piece I was working on for them.
That was awesome!
That was beautiful Ben!
You know, there's a talent show coming up! You should sign up!
Yeah, you totally should!
The sign up sheet is on the board over there! Think about it?

I practiced that piece everysingle day. It was the last day of practice before the talent show, and I had forgotten something very important. I had to tell my parents!
As I walked home, I was getting more and more anxious by the second.
It was good. I have to tell you guys something.
What is it son?
Hi Honey! How was school?
I've entered my school's talent show, and I'm playing piano! There's nothing you can do to stop me!
What!
No! You can't go! we forbid it!
With determination, I ran to the school theater. Ready to play my heart out!
Once I got to the theater that talent show started. Once it was my turn I sat down, and began to play.
After I finished the crowd roared with cheers. I ran backstage and was in awe at who I saw...
That was magnificent! We're getting a piano at home!
My Parents!
That was beautiful! I'm so sorry we didn't believe in you!
Every day after school now, my parents are the first ones to hear my new pieces, and finally accept me for who I am. A musician.
