- Bryan grew up in a poor neighborhood in Barstow California with an abusive, alcoholic father. When his parents got a divorce he moved with his mom to San Diego. During all this Bryan lost interest in learning and spent his time in the streets. After getting negative influence from his peers, he committed his first crime of theft in 1975 which led to him getting arrested and incarcerated.

- On May 9th, The body of 34-year-old Joanne Sweets was discovered in a dumpster on 51st Street. Joanne was strangled and visibly battered before her death, with bruises on her face and neck. Fractures were present in her cervical vertebrae, ribs, and collarbone. The blanket found on the victim's body was identified as Jones' and was made by his mother. Particles found on Sweets' belongings matched those in Jones' apartment. And Jones’ fingerprints were found on the garbage bag, dumpster, and Joanne’s body.

- Bryan Jones was found guilty in March 1994 for the murders of Joanne Sweets and Sophia Glover, along with the sexual assaults of two other victims. On September 19, 1994, the court officially sentenced Jones to death, after Dusek said that he would not have Jones tried on the remaining charges because he was already on death row. Jones still remains on California’s death row and awaits execution.
