- Germany surrenders unconditionally because their leader had killed himself, which basically represented him realizing they had lost the war, and instead of surrendering, he killed himself. They also were invaded and didn't want to sacrifice more of their people. They accepted harsh surrender terms so that they didn't have to fight anymore. They were fighting a war on two sides against Russia and the Allies.
- The Soviet Union and the U.S.A. were allies during WWII against the Axis powers. The Axis powers were Japan, mainly Germany, and Italy. After the war, however, they became suspicious of each other because of the U.S.S.R. spying on the U.S. and their nuclear arsenal. After the war, the U.S.S.R. began to force the countries it was occupying into communist states instead of releasing them, which caused tension.
