  • During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, I had been passing alone, on horse back, within the view of the melancholy House of Usher
  • A sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit.
  • Although, as boys, I knew very little of my friend. I was aware that his very ancient family had been noted, time out of mind, for a particular sensibility of temperament
  • Nevertheless,in this mansion of gloom I now proposed to myself a sojourn of some weeks. Its proprietor, Roderick Usher, had been one of my boon companions in boyhood; but many years elapsed since our last meeting
  • A letter had lately reached me, a letter from him. The writer spoke of acute body illness-of a mental disorder which oppressed him- and of earnest desire to see me, his best and indeed his only personal friend.
  • I at first did not recognize him, however a glance at his countenance convinced me of his perfect sincerity.
  • I suffer from a morbid acuteness of the senses. Soon I shall perish.I admit that my tenderly beloved sister, my sole companion for long years, is my only and last relative. She is sick with a very unknown sickness, and she might die according to the doctors.
  • Hello, How are you? You must be wondering why I called you here, well in my current state, I need comfort and help due to the nature of my malady.
  • yes, I will help, and I am deeply sorry for your loss
  • The lady Madeline has just passed away. I want to bury her in a vault beneath the mansion. I need your help burying her in the vault
  • The vault was small and damp . The disease which had thus entombed the lady in the maturity of youth, had left as usual in all maladies of a strictly cataleptic character.
  • I could already feel different, strange, odd, and a loss of senses
  • I wonder why I cannot fall asleep. Why am I hearing these sounds? Where are they coming from? Why am I shaking? Why do I feel an utter depression and sickening in the heart?
  • I have been moving around trying to get rid of these murmurs in my head, but why can I not see you clearly? and I feel like someone's following me, and this tense coldness has pervaded my body
  • What are you doing ?
  • I think you might be ill, very ill, like me.
  • Roderick, my guess is that we're both dying, so lets make up for our time alive
  • Once Upon a time.....
  • And this is the story of how Roderick Usher and his beloved companion died tragically together in the fate of being ill inside the "House of Usher".
