- In March 1765, Parliament passed the Quartering Act to address the concerns of such a troop deployment.
- The reaction of the colonists was negative and sprouted from many problems. The colonists preferred to rely on militia units rather than armies.
- Resistance to the Quartering Act was the most prominent in New York. The New Yorkers said it was unfair to expect them to pay the full cost of Britain’s army. This crisis later compressed, but an immense amount of spite remained and many colonists became wary of the British's intentions.
