- Good evening, everyone. Forgive me if I don't stay ( she jumps on a chair). I have a friend waiting for me in there. My friend Tom. Tom the cat. Some people say that we look alike. But Tom, has the most beautiful whiskers, and I have only a little fuzz. I am hoping ... In time ...
- Anne flings open the door of Peter's room, making a dramatic entrance. she is dressed in Peter's clothes, peter looks at her in fury
- for a second Anne stands looking up at Petter, longing for him to kiss her. As he makes no moves she turns away. then suddenly grabs her awkwardly
- Anne stands, holding her school bag, looking over at her father and mother with a soft reassuring smile. she is no longer a child, but a woman with courage to meet whatever lies head.

- I heard about you ... How you talked so much in class and they called my mrs Quack Quack. How mr Smitter made you write a composition ... "Quack Quack", said mrs Quack Quack.
- (Outraged- jumping down) Peter!
- Kissing her on the cheek. Anne walks out dazed. she stands for a minute, her back to the people in the main room. As she regains her poise she goes to the main room.
- In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart
