- I was also a member of the abolitionist Vigilance Committee where we protect fugitive slaves from being caught and returning to slavery under the Fugitive Slave act.
- Me and other had helped lots of people escape. I have even helped a couple from Georgia.
- After the Civil War I helped with a number of cases and also helped with freeing Masonry among young black men,women suffrage and black education.
- I´ve also helped in the case of Shadrach Minkins case in 1851 which was successful.
- And another case to free Anthony bruns in 1854 which was unsuccessful.
- Lewis hayden passed away on April 7,1889.
