- The story starts off with Ponyboy getting jumped by Socs, until his older brother and gang the Greasers come to his defense which scares off the Socs. We also find out from this that Ponyboy is having issues with his older brother Darry. Later on they go to a drive-in movie where they meet two girls named Cherry and Marcia. They end up getting to know each other which gets the their boyfriends Bob and Randy mad that they are with their girls.
- Falling Action
- After they save the children in the fire, which then makes them heroes in the newspaper. Johny gets seriously hurt from this, which sadly ends in his death. The greaser and Tim Shepard's gang then go on to defeat Socs in a rumble, until later that night they hear the news about Johnny. It is hard for many of the Greasers to mentally recover from this.
- As Johnny and Ponyboy are walking home. They see a blue mustang circling them. It is the Socs trying to jump them. This ends in Johnny killing Bob out of self-defense to save Ponyboy from drowning. After this Ponyboy and Johnny meet with Dally who gives them a gun, and warm clothes. He tells them to get on a train to Windrixville where they can find out in the church for the time being.
- After Dally goes to eat with Johnny and Ponyboy they see the old Church on fire. They all go in and save all the children, which then makes them heroes in the newspaper. - Because of this Dally then robs a grocery store, which ends in him getting shot when he raised a fake gun at them. After all of the madness that happens they then must go to court where Pony is a acquitted of all charges. He also gets to stay with his brothers. After Pony returns to school he is failing some of hi classes. The his teacher comes up to him and says if he can write a good spring theme he will pass. So after that he starts writing the whole story "The Outsiders".
