- After accidentally glancing at Reese in the bathroom mirror Jude notices the bruising on Reese from the bandages he wears for his upper body. The text states, "You should take that thing off. If it hurts you. You don't have to wear it here. I don't care what you look like" (Bennett 132). Although Jude had good intentions with this her choice of words was offensive to Reese. Jude's choice of words also shows that she is non judgemental even if she didn't word it in the best terms.

- Jude admired Early's strangeness because he was not her father but the closest thing to it. The text states, "She liked watching him slowly disassemble the gun while she peppered him with questions" (Bennett 92). Although Early lived a strange lifestyle him and Jude were still able to bond in their own ways. This is not a typical way of father and daughter bonding but Jude still enjoyed being able to observe Early and ask him questions.
