  • Here we see King Louis XIV telling France about the Divine Rights of Kings. The Divine Right of Kings is the belief that a monarch's authority to rule comes directly from God, making their power absolute and beyond questioning by earthly authorities or the people. So the people of France fear that God will punish them if they don't listen to the king.
  • I claim the Divine Rights of Kings, therefore if you question me then you are questioning God Himself!
  • In this frame, Louis XIV is revealing his grand palace of Versailles which took years on years to construct along with tons of money, which signifies King Louis' level of control and power in France and that what he says goes.
  • Welcome to my palace, the palace of Versailles!
  • On June 20, 1789, members of the Third Estate took the Tennis Court Oath. This moment became the beginning of the French Revolution, where they said that they would never stop meeting until a constitution had been established because they were tired of how poorly they were treated whilst they watched the royalty like King Louis getting everything they wanted because of their hard work.
