On the Island of Haiti, Touissant L'Overture is working on a sugar plantation.

L'Overturewas sadly born into slavery and has had to deal with the conditions that slaves dealt with.

My father told me that in Africa he was free there. He also said that we are more than just slaves. We are human beings with rights that should be as equal as others. 

Eventually, L'Overture got older and eventually led freedom-hungry slaves into battle. 

After many hard-fought battles, back in France angry Napoleon finally gave up on fighting the war. Meaning Haiti had won its slave revolt and gained its freedom. Lead by Touissant L'Overture.

Later throughout his life he sends a constitution to Napoleon demanding freedom. Napoleon sends soldiers to attack Haiti and regain control, but failed. Later L'Overture was captured for being rumored to have a revolt and was killed. He died from pneumoniaand malnutrition.
