- In 1903, Emmeline founded the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU). His daughters Christabel and Syvie also participated. The foundation aimed to get the vote for women and more participation in politics. The participants of this foundation became known as suffragettes.

- Pankhurst believed that the only way to get the message of the suffragettes would be with actions. They protested, interrupted political speeches, held on to gates. Sometimes, they were arrested by the police.
