Now that you've decided to sign up Josiah into an apprenticeship I'm going to organise Grant your training advisor to set up the first visit, assess Josiah and get him enrolled and onto his first module of learning.

  • Hey these online info videos are great! I am so excited about becoming an Apprentice now. The work doesn't sound too different from what I am doing at the moment, and there are some great opportunities for my career once I have finished!

  • Nice to meet you. I'm going to be Josiah's training advisor. Before we catch up with Josiah, there are a number of things that I want to take you through. We are going to talk about how the Apprenticeship will work for the first 6 months and how we will service you, what it means to have an apprentice, agree who will support Josiah and be training and verifying his on job skills, and make sure that you are happy with what we are recommending as his training plan.

  • Hi Josiah. I'm Grant your training advisor. There is a lot to cover today, and I hope you are ready. We will go through your learning profile and talk about how you like to learn. Then I will take you through the Apprenticeship, and what you can expect in the next 6 months. Your boss and I have talked about who will be training you on the job, who he has assigned as your mentor, and all the people that will support you with your learning. We will go through what an assessment is, how you complete one, and get you on your way. Then we can show you your tablet, and talk you through how you use it.
  • So this is your customised tablet. We have your profile all set up, so you can access the learning management system and all the other tools to help you with your learning. First of all, we are just going to finish your training agreement. We'll talk you through your training plan, how to complete an assessment, record photos and video evidence, and contact us if you get stuck. As you complete your learning, your next modules will be unlocked. And you will get rewards that you can use later to buy work tools and other prizes.

  • He seems really excited about getting started. There was a lot of information today, so Josiah's Learner Success specialist, Eddie, will give him a call next week to make sure that he is up to speed. I will be back in about 6 weeks to make sure he is progressing. Eddie will also be in touch to organise mentor and trainer support for the guys that will be supporting Eddie. In the meantime, you will also get the account for Josiah's first 6 months of learning.

  • Great work Josiah - you have completed all the units that we agreed when you first signed up. I have unlocked the next units that I want you to complete over the next 6 weeks. And it looks like you have earned 25 rewards points!
  • Sweet! Eddie helped me with some of the wording in the workbook that I was struggling with. While you are here, can you check that I am completing this skill correctly before I record it for my next assessment?

  • Great work Josiah - you are on track for your first 3 months of learning. I have unlocked the next units that I want you to complete over the next 3 months. And it looks like you have earned another 25 rewards points! I also heard that you met some of my other apprentices at the Study Group the other night.

  • Yeah! It was great to meet other Apprentices that were going through the same sort of thing as me. They even fed us pizza which was a bonus.

  • Josiah is making great progress. He has completed the units that we unlocked for him in the first 6 months, even though he started to struggle with the last couple of units we unlocked. I would suggest that with the extra support he is getting with the study group that he is over coming some of the areas of concern that we identified in his learning profile. My suggestion is that we look at 6 visit per annum support cycle for Josiah, keep him on the study groups, and look at getting him on the block courses in 6 months time when he has completed these units.
  • That sounds good. We are light on man power at the moment and I don't know if my guys are giving Josiah the support that he needs.

  • So with your customised tablet, the next set of units has been unlocked. After you complete these Eddie will be in touch to set you up on your block course. Your boss and I have agreed to the number of times that I am going to visit, but if you feel that you need me to come out because you are really stuck, you can request extra visits with the approval of you boss via the tablet. Remember that you also have the webinar series, and study groups to support your learning. And Eddie is available if you get stuck.
