- This tree is about to eat! Let's take a look at how photosynthesis is made for food.
- Carbon dioxide enters the leaf first.
- Water is absorbed into the leaf.
- Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast which only plant cells have. Carbon dioxide and water are both reactants for photosynthesis.
- Light hits the pigment in the membrane of a thylakoid, splitting the water into oxygen.
- Light reactions are split into two types , there is light independent (Calvin cycle) and light dependent. This step is light dependent.
- And that is the process of photosynthesis!
- The Calvin Cycle ( light independent) uses the carbon dioxide that has been collected to help produce glucose. ATP and NADP+ give the energy for the reactions to occur.

- In light dependent reactions light energy is used to convert ADP to ATP and NADP+ to NADPH.
- The second of two major stages in photosynthesis (after the light reactions), involving CO2 fixation and reduction of the fixed carbon into carbohydrate.
