- Studying the southern Ocean in Antartica is crucial to global climate but is already difficult to do so. Dr. Susan Bengtson Nash and her team work at Griffith University were she is using Humpback Whales to further her reasearch.
- She chose the Humpback whale specifically because each year they migrate from the cold waters of Antartica where they feed on krill to the warmer tropical waters to mate and give birth. Dr. Susan is able to use their tissue which carries vital information on the current health status of the Antarctic sea ice ecosystem.

- They use a "modified air rifle with a biopsy data" to take samples of their blubber tissue which contains the information they need to analyze the Antarctic sea ice ecosystem. This species of whales does the job for them by bringing the data from migrating.
- Dr. Susan analyzes the fat reserves because "that tells us how successful their summer feeding on Antarctic krill was." She is then able to determine the conditions of the Ice sea ecosystem as well as the whales health.
- Dr. Susan's findings were able to successfully eliminate a difficult travel to Antartica and also study their ecosystem from afar. She also found another method of monitoring the ice sea ecosystem.
- Dr. Susan and her field of work definitely contributes to the success of of our future. It can possibly show solutions on how we can fix todays conflicts.
