- Macbeth and Banquo come back joyfully as they have defeated the rebells.
- As they walk through the forest three witches appear and tells Macbeth that he will become thane of Cawdor and thereafter he shall become king. And they tell Banquo that he shall be the father of kings.

- As Macbeth and Banquo travel back a man came riding up to them. He said to Macbeth, "Macbeth! The King has made you thane of Cawdor."
