  • After becoming Chancellor of Germany on January 30th, 1933, Hitler began planning responses to Germany's "Jewish Question." This was basically Germany asking themselves what they should do with their Jewish population.
  • Hitler's "First Solution to the Jewish Question" was to encourage the Jewish population to emigrate elsewhere.
  • However, mainly due to lack of funds, many Jewish people remained in Nazi Germany. Even worse, many fortunate enough to escape were only able to make it to countries later taken over by the Nazis.
  • After realizing that there were still a significant number of Jewish citizens in Germany, Hitler planned another response to his predicament. In 1939, he came up with his "Second Solution to the Jewish Question."
  • The "Second Solution to the Jewish Question" was to forcefully relocate all Jewish citizens in Nazi Germany. They were sent to sectioned off areas called ghettos.
  • The ghettos were over-populated and filthy. Food was scare and needed to be rationed out slowly to families. There were also Nazi soldiers constantly verbally and physically abusing the Jews in the ghettos.
  • As the war effort marched onward and the ghettos became crowded, Hitler landed on the "Final Solution to the Jewish Question." This is the most widely known because it was the most brutal. Hitler decided on exterminating every Jewish person that his army came into contact with.
  • Hitler's mad scientists brainstormed incredibly barbaric methods of killing off the European Jewish population. They used gas chambers (in which they utilized a chemical known as Zyklon B), specialized trucks that pumped CO2 directly into the back, and the Einsatzgruppen.
