  • I bet I'd make a really good Handicapper General George! I could play loud chimes on Sundays!
  • I bet you would Hazel! But I would still be able to think with just chimes.
  • Breaking news ladies and gentleman! Harrison Bergeron has just escaped from jail. He is under-handicapped and very dangerous.
  • Wow
  • *Car crash sound in George's ear
  • Look on TV Hazel! That must be Harrison that escaped... wait, huh what happened.
  • Pick me!
  • I am the emperor! Everybody do what I say now! I will now select my empress.
  • Harrison tears the straps of his handicap harnesses off.
  • How dare these two break the law and take their handicap harnesses off. It means I'm not equal to them!
  • In his story "Harrison Bergeron," Kurt Vonnegut makes the point that physically gifted individuals seem to be targeted by society. People who are handicapped or less talented than the geniuses of society are obviously jealous. He shows that the media tries to portray their narrative on TV so that viewers can easily be swayed. When George and Hazel are watching the news, they seem to agree with it even though Harrison is their son. It seems that Kurt Vonnegut still believes most people are good, and it's just the government who tries to control them with their jealousy. He uses satire to show that everyone is not eqaul if the gifted are treated differently. He makes a great point and shows how ridiculous it is through humor.
