- Asoka had started of as just the grandson of Chandragupta, but after Chandragupta passed, the title of king was passed down too Asoka starting his rule. He was a very strong leader and could be violent. If he had a point he would get it across and he quickly wanted to rule more.
- History of Asoka
- Eventually he wanted to rule a area of land. He told the ruler and people of that land that he wanted to take it over. They quickly stated that they didn't want to let him be their ruler which started a conflict. Asoka decided to take the land that denied Asoka to rule them into a war.
- History of Asoka
- The war was a very bloody battle having Asoka's side lose 10,000 men and the other side loosing 100,000. Slaves were taken on each others side and eventually the war ended. In 261 B.C. Asoka had won the battle, but at what cost? He was scared from the war realizing what struggles the world was having.
- History of Asoka
- Once Asoka was so hurt and scared from the war he decided he needed to change the problems that were happening seeing how others were still struggling. He decided to convert do Buddhism, to help others and do whats right. He freed slaves and let them go not wanting them to struggle.
- After that Asoka helped out the people in the town that were poor providing them with things they need and telling the about the benefits of Buddhism and how it has changed so many people. He also stopped sacrificing animals and hunting to let animals live a happy life, than ending their life.
- Asoka was so much happier and proud with his life. He built his way up to be a king that is very fierce with a temper, to a calm ruler who promotes positive activity , and helps others more. He told his followers and warriors to also talk and spread the word about Buddhism promoting it to others, to make them happy too.
