- In 1789 only white male property owners could vote. Then the universal suffrage was created and only white men could vote without owning property.
- The 24th Amendment
- This amendment gave African American males the right to vote. It promised that a person's right to vote could not be denied based on race, color, or previous condition as a slave. Why didn't they honor this amendment?
- The 26th Amendment
- This amendment gave all American white women the right to vote. The women's suffrage movement was a group of women who petition their rights. Why did it take so long for them to grant women to right to vote?
- Voting now
- Laws were created to limit African Americans' right to vote like literacy tests and poll taxes. Why would they create the 15th amendment if they were still not going to let black people vote?
- Gave the right to vote to 18 year old's. "Old enough to fight, old enough to vote". You can fight in army at 18 so they thought people 18 and up should be able to vote. Did 18 year old's want to vote during this time?
- Now all people can vote no matter there skin color or race. You have to be 18 and not be a convicted fellon to vote.
