- To start with, a friend helped sparked a passion for reading. I admired his reading habits
- Hi, My name is Karuu. I want to tell you about my journey of digital literacy
- His name was Dennis, He helped me discover the fun in reading. We read most of the daily newspapers every school day after lunch and we also frequented the school library
- We need to put equal enthusiasm in our school work like we do with the dailies
- I loved captions from newspapers especially sports. I started making albums with cuttings on soccer, athletics, and boxing. I memorized captions increasing my vocabulary
- I guess this is what remixing and remediating is about
- When not in School, I spent most of my free time playing with other kids in my neighborhood. We were very innovative and improvised a lot of toys
- Nintendo Game & Watch was my first digital encounter
- Nintendo game & watch was so much fun. The parachute was my favorite game
- After mobile phones were introduced in Kenya in the 90s, I bought a Motorola handset like the above model. It could not fit in the pockets and was quite limited in functions. I was very proud to own one. It gave me my first real digital interface and interaction.
- A year after owning a mobile handset, I enroled at Computer PrideCollege in Nairobi for a certificate in Computer packages: Microsoft Dos,Microsoft Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, Email and Internet
- After I became computer literate I spent a lot of time in Cyber cafes browsing online
- That's how I became digitally literate and today I can't imagine life without technology
