  • Family Based Communities
  • Okay, son! Tell your Auntie, I need some help harvesting the fields.
  • Father! I'm going to the nearby village to trade!
  • Villages
  • How should we control the flood? Let's work together!
  • Let's build a dam! My community can help yours!
  • Towns and Cities
  • Aren't these trade cities rich enough as it is?
  • Excuse me, but I'm going to have to tax those iron tools of yours.
  • South of the Sahara, there lived a big family. They were a community that farmed and traded with nearby towns. Together they created a society.
  • Empires
  • I would like to offer tribute to my new king.
  • Soon these family communities joined together. They created goods of all kinds. They came together to help each other mine, farm, etc. They provided each other with protection as well.
  •
  • Over time, villages near rivers became more accessible for trade. With the rise of iron-working, farming was more efficient. This meant there was a surplus of food that people could trade for with other goods. Therefore, more people had different jobs. This created trading sites where people could trade for their needs, and soon more people began live in these new cities.
  •
  • Soon these cities became empires. This was due to the rich rulers of trade cities being able to afford armies. The armies were used to conquer more cities. Within these new large cities, people paid the rulers with "tributes" as a sign of acceptance or request of protection from their new rulers.
  • You have made a wise decision. My army and I will continue to conquer and protect you well, loyal citizen.
