- The First Punic War started because the people of Rome were afraid of the Carthaginians' growing power, so they attacked Carthage. The Romans eventually won the war during a naval battle by stealing a Carthaginian ship and replicating it. They also added a bridge, so the Roman soldiers could take over enemy ships. The two parties then agreed to have peace in exchange for Rome receiving Sicily's granaries.
- The Second Punic War started when Hannibal sought revenge on Rome, so he led several men on a long route and surrounded Rome. Unable to pass Rome's walls the men took over surrounding areas for fifteen years. Eventually, the Romans attacked Carthage because there was no one left to defend it. Carthage worked out peace with the Romans by giving them money, territories, and the resources that came with them.
- The Third Punic War started because the Romans feared that the Carthaginians would rebuild their city and attack them, so they marched over to the city, burned it, and poured salt on the crops so the Carthaginians would not be able to progress. The Romans then took many Carthaginians into slavery and killed the rest. What the Romans gained for this massacre was control over the Mediterranean Sea.
