  • Here Creon is telling his son that his soon to be wife is no good and he doesn't want Haemon to marry her. Creon is letting his pride destroy him and his son relationship.
  • "Let her find her husband in hell."
  • Creon is explaining to one of his guards that men should never let a women over power them. Creon is very prideful in his believe that women are lesser than men.
  • "Never let a woman triumph over us."
  • When Haemon is making a suggestion to him about what he believes is moral and should be done, Creon firmly refuses to listen, and shuts him down, saying that he is the king and he won't be “bossed around” by others. He is too prideful to listen to others.
  • "I am to rule this land at someone els's whim or by myself... According to our laws, does not the ruler own the city
  • Creon, after being told that one of his laws was broken, he furiously dismisses the guard who gave him the news and threatens to punish him if he doesn’t find the person who committed the crime. Creon's pride is shown through hiswords--his accusations and through his high praise for himself.
  • “But if you don’t reveal to me who did this, you’ll just confirm how much your treasonous gains have made you suffer”
  • “Creon: ‘Is it a mistake to honour my own rule? Creon: You foul creature—you’re worse than any woman’ ”
  • Creon is a stubborn man, and refuses to let anyone get in the way of his pride. Even when his own son is trying to reason with him, and convince Creon to let Antigone live, Creon still gets angry and quickly shuts him down.
  • Haemon:You’re not honoring that by trampling on the gods’ prerogatives’
  • In the end, we can see that the result of Creon’s big ego and overpowering pride finally bites him in the butt. He is punished by the gods by losing his son and his wife.
  • “I killed you, my son, without intending to, and you, as well, my wife”
