  • Colin and his life in an Inclusive Classroom
  • I am much more than a label. I hope you do not jump to any conclusions about me before you truly learn about me. 
  • Hi everyone, my name is Colin. I am a sophomore in high school and I am autistic. I am going to take you through a day in my life being included in the classroom
  • History of Special Education
  • You know, a while back I would not have been able to be included in the classroom. I probably would have been sent to a room to learn on my own, or with a few other students.
  • In the case of Colin, who is a high school student with autism, he is high functioning, extremely intelligent, and has benefitted tremendously from being included in the general education curriculum. This comic strip will be used to show my understanding of the history of special and inclusive education, research based strategies which help students in the classroom, as well as the purpose and positive impacts of inclusive education.
  • Prior to 1975, Colin would have been separated from his peers. Either sent away to an institution, or put in a separate room with other disabled peers. Thanks to parent advocacy groups
