- The French and Indian people fought over the Ohio River valley. American Indians traded fur and goods. The French wanted to keep these trades to themselves.
- Townshend Act (1767)
- You have to pay for all the things it says on the bottom.

- Britain created a tax called the Sugar Act. Britain not only taxed sugar, but also other imported goods, like coffee and clothing. Some colonists avoided paying by smuggling the things they need.
- Boston Massacre (1770)
- AAAAAAAAAAH!
- Britain created a new tax called the Stamp Act, which meant you had to pay for anything that was printed on paper. This made the colonists mad. They started shouting, "No taxation without representation!"
- Boston Tea Party (1773)
- I pushed all these boxes of tea into the harbor.Yay.
- Britain still needed more money to pay for the French and Indian War, so they made another tax called the Townshend Act. Colonists had to pay taxes for tea, glass, paint, lead, and paper.
- The colonists were angry after all the unfair taxing. They started yelling insults and throwing snowballs at the British soldiers.Then one of the soldiers fired a shot. Other soldiers started shooting too, and soon five colonists were killed in the battle.

- An East Indian Company of Britain allowed the British soldiers to sell tea at a lower price. British soldiers told the colonists to buy them, but they refused, so the boxes of tea stayed on the ship. That night, the colonist sneaked aboard the ship and pushed all the boxes of tea into the harbor.
