  • is it the smallest particle of a chemical element that could exist?
  • Why yes, that's exactly what is is
  • Hello class, today we will be learning about atoms. Now does anyone know what an atom is firstly?
  • 3. Protons and neutrons are in the centre and make up a nuclease for the atom. The electrons are in the shells of the atom which are identified as circles surrounding the nuclease.
  • 2.An atom is divided into 3 sub-atomic parts: Protons, neutrons, and electrons
  • 1. But today we will learn what it is, why it is important in the periodic table, its structure and we will use an example to show this
  • 4. One more thing to mention, for however many protons there are in an atom, there will always be the same amount of electrons in it
  • Is it because that is how it is identified, an atom is identified by its element?
  • Now why do we think an atom is important to the periodic table?
  • Yes! correct again
  • So basically, atoms are important towards the periodic table because each atom is a very small piece of that specific element and later throughout the table the atomic number - number of protons and neutrons in nuclease gradually increases which later creates a larger atom which is represented as the elements smallest piece
  • 4. Inside the nuclease, which is made up of protons and neutrons, you see that there are 5 neutrons and 4 protons, this makes up the atomic mass. Now, surrounding the nuclease there are 2 shells, which are basically 2 larger circles around the nuclease itself. Within each of those 2 shells, there are 2 electrons, giving you 4 electrons in total
  • 1. Now lets move on to trying this with an example, Lets use Beryllium for this example.
  • 3. This means that the number of electrons is also four. Now let us imagine.
  • 2. Beryllium is the Fourth element on our periodic table, so its atomic number is 4. Its atomic mass is 9- atomic mass is number of protons and neutrons.
  • Yes we did sir
  • Now, did you guys understand todays lesson about atoms?
  • Woah that's great guys, good to know that my class now knows what an atom is. I am impressed!
