- Hi Jeff! I'm ok, just thinking about things?

- Jeff, there is so much garbage in my community!
- It makes the place look and smell bad but no one is doing anything about it!
- I don't like it at all, Jeff, but everyone seems fine with it...
- Did you know that garbage is a form of solid waste? And not disposing of it properly is polluting our environment?!
- But if you're not fine with it Fred, why not do something about it?
- Do what Jeff? I'm too young and people won't listen to me?!
- Well if you don't do something, a lot of bad things can happen. It can affect the health of people in the community.
- You're not too young to make a change especially when it has to do with the environment. That's our future, we have to protect it!
- That's true, but what can I really do? Everyone throws their garbage on the roadside, the garbage bins are full and when the rain falls the roads flood because the drains are blocked? Not to mention the smell and the flies!
- Well, you can write to the Parish Council telling them that the garbage is not being collected so they need to come and collect it. We can ask our teacher to help us make flyers and posters at school to give out in the community to inform people of the impact of pollution, why they should recycle and sort their garbage before throwing it out. You can also invite the Police to the community meeting to tell what is the penalty if they litter as well.
- This sounds great Jeff! I just remembered this song we heard on the radio, "nuh dutty up Jamaica, please don't dweet"! You think Miss could ask those people to come as well?!
- Of course! Miss could get them to come and everyone could help you! Remember, the environment is our responsibility, because Jamaica's Beauty IS OUR DUTY!!!
- As soon as we get to school, lets go talk to Miss!!
