Everything that's been happening makes it feel like we're going backwards. How can I call myself a feminist when I feel like I'm not making a difference? I feel like I might as well give up.
I understand how you feel, but in times like this it's important to think about radical feminism. Although we aren't there yet, as feminists we can envision a better world that does not yet exist.
Oh I see. So is it kind of like what Sonya Renee Taylor said in that one TedTalk? Where she discussed radical self-love, and how questioning the beliefs we have about all bodies can make way for a more just and equitable world? And by doing that we can create a word where we stop comparing our bodies to each other?
We can think about what Dean Spade is doing. Through law and activism, Spade is fighting for trans liberation. And while we're far from it, Spade is hoping to create a future where all kinds of gender identity and expression are accepted, and we're free to exist outside of the gender binary.
Oh wow. I'm feelin a bit better now. Despite not being there yet, I feel comfort in knowing that working together and embracing all types of feminism is moving us towards a better future. I can't give up!
Exactly! Women in India are doing this right now! There are women working together to create affordable and accessible menstrual items. They're breaking the taboo around periods and empowering other women while they're at it!
