We are confused about the vote between the NYCHA TRUST and NYCHA PACT for Nostand Houses. How will each benefit us ?
Both programs receive federal funding. The difference is that the TRUST 100% publicly controlled, while the PACT is jointly-owned with a private developer.
What is the job quality offered by the companies that come into our community to do the rehab work? Will they hire local residents?
The TRUST is the only program that guarantees union employment with Section 3 local hire for residents. Not just short-term jobs, but long-term careers with benefits. With PACT, we don't know what type of jobs the developer will bring.
I definitely have a better understanding on this vote and the possible benefits, besides the upgraded homes. You're right, a career is much better than a job that ends when the one project is over.
Correct. I'm from Nostrand Houses and I joined Local 79 through Section 3, and now I have a union career. The NYCHA TRUST can help other residents access the same opportunity.
