Hektor is upset with Paris for not fighting in the war that he caused. Paris understands why he feels this way and prepares to fight because Helen wants him to.

Hektor of the shining helm goes to the house of Athene to visit his wife, Andromache, and son, Astyanax. She has gone to the house to propitiate (vocabulary) the goddess.
Andromache of the white arms (stock epithet) wants Hektor to stay home from war, but Hektor knows that it is in his family's best interest to continue to fight.
Glorious Hektor tries to pick up his son, but Astynax is frightened of his father's helmet. The divide between being a father and a warrior is present.
Hektor prays to Zeus that his son will grow up to become a better man and warrior than he is (respect and obedience to gods).
Odysseus and Aias are sent to persuade Achilleus to rejoin the war. Achilleus refuses despite the honor offered to him.
