- Exposition: The Elliots rent Kellynch Hall to the Admiral and Mrs. Croft since they cannot afford to pay the debts. Anne goes to stay with her sister Mary for a few months at Uppercross Cottage while Mr. Elliot, Mrs. Clay and Elizabeth move to Bath.
- Conflict: When Anne was 19, she was engaged to Capt. Frederick Wentworth but was persuaded by Lady Russell to call it off. After eight years, she hopes to see him again after she finds out that he is the brother of Mrs. Croft.
- Rising Action: Wentworth returns from the sea & befriends Mr. Musgrove. Mary's sister-in-laws Marietta and Louisa openly flirt with him and he seems to be smitten with them, therefore, Anne believes she's lost him forever. The group travels to Lyme to the Marville's where Anne meets her cousin. Louisa gets injured on a morning walk on the beach. Wentworth thinks it's his fault and stays with her while Anne first goes to stay with Lady Russell and they go to bath together where Anne is pursued by Mr. Elliot, her cousin.
- Climax: Anne finds out through her friend Mrs. Smith that the said friend was mistreated by her cousin and he seeks to become the sole heir of Kellynch Hall by marrying Anne, fearing that Anne's father Sir Walter Elliot might marry Mrs. Clay, give birth to a son and deprive him of the opportunity. The Crofts arrive in Bath with the news that both Henrietta and Louisa are now engaged but none of them is bound to Wentworth. Wentworth sends a letter to Anne where he reveals his feelings of strong love for Anne.
- Falling Action: Anne finds Wentworth and confesses that his love is recruited. The Elliots and Lady Russell have now no objections on their marriage. Mr. Elliot and Mrs. Clay left Bath with a rumored suspicion that they are together.
- Anne and Captain Wentworth get married.
