Texto del Guión Gráfico

  • John Stewart wants to use his platform to speak out about the tragedy in NY. He wants to address the situation so he can return to making people laugh and lift their spirits.
  • "And you know I don't see it as a burden at all. I see it as a privilege." (3)
  • "The main reason that I wanted to speak tonight is not to tell you what the show is going to be, not to tell you about all the incredibly brave people that are here in NY and in Washington and around the country, but we've had an unenduring pain and I just wanted to tell you why I grieve but I don't despair." (4)
  • His purpose is to mourn the lives we lost, but not lose hope. He wants us to come together as a community and use each other to become stronger than we were before the attacks. He wants us to learn the value of community and that there is still hope for us as a country.
  • Stewart refers to MLK values in his iconic "I have a dream" speech. MLK wanted us to come together despite what we looked like. This plays into this situation because Stewart wants us to come together , to us each other to heal, despite our physical features.
  • Values
  • "The reason I don't despair is that...this attack happened. It's not a dream. But the aftermath of it, the recovery, is a dream realized. And that is MLK's dream." (6 - V)
  • Stewart stays that because we have started coming together as a community, that's why the terrorist won't win. They can't ruin our democracy. However, we need to use that and keep moving forward.
  • "And that's why we have already won...they can't...it's light. It's democracy. They can't shut that down" (7)
  • Stewart uses a personal story to lighten the mood and be able to connect with the audience.
  • Anecdotes
  • "'My God! We get to sit under our desks and eat cottage cheese.'" (5)
  • Stewart continues to take this time of negativity and turn it into something positive, hopefully inspiring others to do the same."
  • "But you want to know what the view is now? The Statue of Liberty...the view from the south of Manhattan is the Statue of Liberty. You can't beat that." ( 9)
